For our limited face-to-face meeting in Stockholm, I'd like to spend our time trying to come to grips with some of the stickier issues. I've gone back over the mailing list archives and my own notes and come up with the following: syntax changes: [ ] Mark Crispin proposed that we remove "[" "]" "." from specials and redefine local-part and domain to be just "word". This would (among other things) allow "."s in "phrase"s. On one hand, this would make life simpler for parsers; on the other hand, it might encourage generation of even more messages that aren't compatible with existing mailers. [ ] How do we do IPv6 literals? [ ] Should we unify 821 and 822 address syntax, and if so, what should the grammar be? other stuff: [ ] discuss use of SMTP as a message submission protocol (what to do about missing headers, etc.) [ ] discuss use of RFC 822 as a message submission protocol (how to handle bcc, etc.) [ ] what do/should the Resent-* headers really mean? [ ] should we restrict the names or kinds of user-defined message headers? (e.g. a: forbid field-names with Content-* unless they're part of MIME b: forbid fields that are supposed to be interpreted by MTAs during transport or delivery) [ ] interaction of headers with mailing lists? I've also considered having us go over the last 821 applicability statement draft (or the parts of it which might be controversial). Those who have other pressing topics, or preferences about which of these topics are more important than others, should mention them now. If we still have time left, we can always talk about what we should say about mail gateways...that will take up whatever time we have remaining... Keith
