Welcome to the DRUMS working group. Our first order of business should be to identify problems with the existing mail protocol documents. These could either be problems with a specific section of text in one of the existing RFCs, or more general "structural" problems which indicate that a particular area has been neglected in explaining how these protocols fit together. So now is the time for members to carefully re-examine the mail RFCs, and see what problems you find. Now is also the time for those who have recently implemented Internet mail protocols to point out the things that were confusing or poorly specified. (those of us who have been around for awhile may have forgotten how difficult it was...) A reminder: the DRUMS working group is specifically forbidden from defining new features. If there are bugs in the functionality that 821, 822 etc. were intended to address, we can try to fix those, but we cannot arbitrarily add things to the mail system. Simply editing and revising these documents is likely to be an immense task, and the only way we can keep it managable is to limit the problem. Keith Moore
