The process creating the message-id, not the owner of the > domain name, is responsible for uniqueness. In case the domain creating the message-id is different from the domain in the author's e-mail address, that would mean that it would be illegal to construct the message-ID by combining the e-mail address of the author with a date/time or a sequence number. This is OK with me, but some mailers might have problems with it, since the procedure of creating a Message-ID from the e-mail address of the author is a very common method used by many mailers. Another problem would occur if the message-id is created in a personal computer which does not have any domain name. It would then be impossible for software systems where the client in a personal computer creates the Message-ID from creating any Message-ID at all! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jacob Palme (Stockholm University and KTH) for more info see URL: http://www.dsv.su.se/~jpalme
