I recall Eric Huizer's mentioning the need for one such command in a meeting
some time ago.  If memory serves, it had to do with customers who had Internet
access via ISDN, and needed to be told to poll their access points for mail.

By the way, what takes the place of mailext now that this WG has concluded
their activities (hasn't it?) and DRUMS is not to define new SMTP functionality?
