Mostly bad addresses are due to bad habbits (especially in using comments in RFC 822 addresses). I don't think Keith meant to imply it was a gateway implementation problem, but a process of gatewaying problem - ie: difficulties that are unavoidable due to gateways to networks with other standards. Eg: Internet mail doesn't have much of a line length problem (really), but when gatewayed into bitnet there are all these punch card image lookalike rules to comply with, which makes life very difficult. Don't treat Keith's words as any kind of a slur on those who implement gateways, most of whom (OK, not all) do a very good job attempting to reconcile almost irreconcilable differences bewteen the systems. kre
