Gentlemen, IETF has a record with standing WGs, especially standing WGs whose purpose becomes more or less sitting around waiting for proposals. Many terms could be used for that record, "success" isn't one of them. Even mailext, which never had an "add arbitrary items to charter" item in its charter, was not as focused and effective as would have been desirable. Also note the intro to the SMTP extensions doc itself -- more of these extensions are not necessarily a Good Thing and it may not be in our interests to make them particularly easy. If there are proposals for new work, I-Ds should be written and then discussions should be held with the ADs about how to proceed. We will figure out something; it won't be a standing WG. john
