Mary's Danish - Circa and T-shirt designs

originally submitted by Brian Chamberlin:

In 1999, the magazine LA Weekly (www.laweekly.com) published a story about the band "Mary's Danish". According to the article, the record label stopped supporting the band mid-way through a nationwide tour, and when the band tried to sell T-Shirts to support themselves for the rest of the tour, the record label sued them claiming that they owned the rights to the T-shirt design. After the tour, the label refused to distribute their album and refused to let the band find a new distributor. The effectively barred the musicians from making any money from their own work.

Stifled uses

Brian Chamberlin:

I am not associated with Mary's Danish in any way. I read this article in the LA Weekly and thought it an appropriate example.
